I am so sorry for your loss. Sending you strength and peace as you and your family deal with the very difficult loss of your father. I'm sure it's a huge loss to all of you and all of Walkerton and King and Queen County.
Thank you, Hannah! I saw a beautiful presentation about the Middle Peninsula yesterday by my friend Julia King (here in Durham). Will let you know when her book is out!
He always claimed he was “hippyish”. He was an electrician for his life, and he died from cancer. 😭
Scott B. raised my brother and I in a cabin in the woods. We had no running water and no electricity at home for almost 2 years. We heated the house and cooked food over a woodstove. Our dad was very kind and cared about people. He encouraged my brother and I to volunteer to support them mentally physically handicapped. Both my brother and I care for people.
very sorry for your loss, Belle, but heartened/charmed/amused/inspired to read about your dad here, in this way, made live again in words. Sounds like my (and most good people's) kind of guy.
Belle- I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. He sounds like a man who could have raised a woman as strong and as gentle and loving as you. I love what he said to the man buying newspapers. Joe will, too, as soon as he wakes up. We'll light a candle for him and leave it burning all day. xo
Beautiful, tenacious, generous — thank you for writing this. I love you and send all my love for continued warmth as you and Richard and the girls move with this loss now too.
Oh how I wish I could have met your father in person! After reading your descriptions and stories about him, I’m sure I would have asked him to adopt me! Thank you so much for telling us all about a truly wonderful man. My heart breaks for you.
