I'd also be very uncomfortable teaching in those conditions. Where I teach in Canada (and this is the case for much of the province of Ontario) we have MANDATORY vaccinations + MANDATORY 6' SOCIAL DISTANCING + MANDATORY MASKING AT ALL TIMES. All three at all times. It might seem extreme but I do think all three cautionary measures are important when we have new variants like Delta and I'm grateful for them. Still, it's going to be hard to teach seminars when students are masked and separated by so much space and I wish, wish, wish more people would get vaccinated--both for their own sakes' and to stem the proliferation of new variants.
I have been thinking about this comment since you posted it, Barbara--what a difference! I went to school yesterday (after the FDA Pfizer approval) thinking, well *someone* will bring up vaccine mandates again. I heard nothing, though I'll bring it up at a monthly admin meeting I'll attend this afternoon. Will report back!
Clapping Hands Farm or a faculty reception...good choice! We were exhilarated when we got vaccinated. We had scaled the peak and raised our arms in triumph. Come to find out it was but a bump on the trail's horizon. We forgot our altimeter and don't know how much higher we have to climb. So discouraging, but there's no turning back, we have to slog on.
I’m so sorry to hear the people in the southern states are being so troublesome still with basic health issues. People have lost their minds and it’s because of the propaganda that they’ve decided to believe. We have them up here in CT but not as many or not as many are in a seat of control. The entire northeast got together early on and went against the previous administration, following science and reason, creating solutions, and still there are people determined to undermine our efforts and ruin it for everyone. It pains me to hear such an amazing institution as your university is acting like this. As a business, a university can’t afford to make miscalculations like this. I feel frustrated and disappointed all over again.
our turtle eggs were transferred to the Turtle Sanctuary so i am hoping they will hatch soon
How did you know that, Mamie? (this is Bea)
Grandpa looked up Sea turtles at Indian Beach Emerald Isle we still don’t know about hatchlings but i am very hopeful

Exactly, Kevin!
