Bea’s first book, Plant Pets, is out in the world, and we’re excited to spread the love and joy! Here is Bea with a brand-new plant pet, sent to her by our friend Kate on Plant Pets’ book birthday:
Here’s what Bea says about the experience of publishing her first book:
Books take a lot of work. You have to come up with an idea, research and write it, and interview a lot of people. Then there’s working with an editor and an illustrator, checking over the pictures and the cover. Then there’s so. Much. Waiting.
I started this book when I was eight! Now I’m ten, and I’ll even be eleven soon, and I have just now gotten copies of the book.
Sometimes it felt like it would never happen—when you’re a kid, six months feels like a long time. A year feels like six years probably does to a grownup. But the books are finally here, and in bookstores too!
I’m so excited for my book launch on Saturday at McIntyre’s. I know not all of you can come, because some of you live far away, but you can still help get the word out about Plant Pets.
Here are the top ways to do that:
1. Ask your local library to order copies. The library is a great place to get books, it’s free, and a single book can be read by lots of kids. Librarians are also really influential, so if they like your book, they can recommend it to other people.
2. Get your copy, and tell your friends to get their copies too! Even if your local bookstore doesn’t have a copy yet, you can ask them to order one for you. Then they’ll see how cute it is and they might order more! Local independent bookstores are the best for learning about books you might love, and they’re good for the community too.
3. Leave a review of the book on Goodreads or Amazon as soon as you’ve read it. This is really helpful and important, because it helps other people who might also like Plant Pets find the book.
4. Post about it on social media, and tag my mom! (My mom is belle_boggs on Instagram.( If you’re a kid, you might need to get your parents to do this, but this also helps. The other day me and my mom did an Instagram Live with KidsGardening. It was fun to talk to Noel about our favorite plants and plant activities. (Tell your friends about the FTT while you’re at it!)
5. If your school is into it, invite me to come share my book. We can do a propagation activity, and if you’re far away I can Zoom with your class. Just email my mom or leave a comment.
Thank you so much! I am so grateful to have been able to do this and I can’t wait for you to see the book!
Love,
Bea
Have you gotten your copy? Have you left a review yet?
